Weerbeeld · the character of the weather
Daily

poster
I built Weerbeeld to turn Amsterdam’s weather into a new poster every day. The archive shows each day at a glance; select one and slide through its hours to see temperature, humidity, rain, cloud cover and wind become colour, direction and composition.
Weerbeeld is a Dutch compound word: weer means weather, and beeld means image, picture, view or impression. Literally, it means “weather image.” In everyday Dutch, it describes something broader: the overall character or appearance of the weather.
How does this work?
Weerbeeld reads Amsterdam’s hourly forecast and daily totals from the Open-Meteo weather API. A fixed set of rules translates that data into a poster, so every visual decision is connected to the weather rather than chosen at random.

| Cloud layers | Depth + layering |

| Wind + gusts | Direction + movement |
| Rain + duration | Blue tones + density |
| Snowfall | White + cold tones |
| Dew point + visibility | Softness + haze |
